November has a way of sneaking up on us. One week we're handing out candy at Trunk or Treat, and the next we're stacking shoeboxes in the fellowship hall and asking who's bringing the pie.
I love this stretch of the year at Kilpatrick, because it's full of tables. Tables covered in shoeboxes and packing tape. Tables at Game Night, loud with laughter. And soon, Thanksgiving tables where we stop long enough to say thank you.
Jesus spent a lot of time at tables. He ate with fishermen and tax collectors, with friends and with people everyone else had written off. Again and again, the meal was the place where someone discovered they belonged.
"Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever." — Psalm 107:1
That's what I want our church to be: a place with room at the table. You don't have to have it all figured out. You don't need to know the songs or where to sit. Just come, and let us save you a seat.
So here's my invitation for this month. Pack a shoebox with us on November 15. Grab a pie from Good Soil Academy. Bring the whole family to Game Night on the 27th. And if you know someone who could use a seat at the table, bring them along.
See you Sunday.
